SAMH manages the Oasis Day Centre (ODC) where psychiatric rehabilitation programmes are conducted for people in recovery of mental illness or dual diagnosis (i.e., mild developmental disorders and mental illness). The main objective is to optimise clients’ level of function in the community, so as to cultivate independence, enhance interpersonal skills, and improve job readiness.
Job Role
Caseworker provides emotional and practical support to clients and their caregivers in order to help clients achieving their goals and improving their lives. Through the application of psychiatric rehabilitation principles, a caseworker instils hope and promote recovery and acceptance for our clients.
Job Responsibilities
A. Client Management
- Receive referrals and arrange for intake interview with client/caregiver. Follow up with referral sources on interview outcomes.
- Manage admission and discharge documentation processes.
- Network with SAMH services/external agencies in relation to clients’ goals/discharge planning & enhance visibility of programme.
- Work with team to formulate client’s goals, in partnership with client and/or family. Assist clients to achieve goals/facilitate attainment of goals.
- Provide supportive counselling to clients/caregivers.
- Provide family support and intervention to facilitate clients’ attainment of goals such as conducting psychoeducational training for caregivers, with volunteers/peers.
- Attend to disputes between clients and emergency situations such as fights, suicide attempts, or violent behavior with team and update Supervisor/engage police help where necessary.
- Lead case discussions to discuss clients’ progress and intervention plans for clients using multidisciplinary and team approach.
- Attend enquiries made by the police, the public, visitors and caregivers and referring them to relevant parties.
- Accompany clients to hospital admissions, appointments, job interviews etc where necessary.
- Conduct visits such as home, hospital and job site where necessary.
- Evaluate the services provided to clients to determine their effectiveness and prepare recommendations for changes in services delivery as needed.
B. Rehabilitative Activities
- Conduct groupwork, psychoeducation workshops and other therapeutic sessions for clients.
- Work out step-by-step instruction for volunteer/peers to carry out intervention, providing guidance as needed.
- Co-plan and review programmes/activities for the month with Programme Coordinator.
- Support/review group work/activities including budgeting, ADL, IADL, communication skills training modules etc. for clients.
- Plan, implement and evaluate peer-led programmes/activities in consultation with Head.
C. Administrative Duties
- Prepare social reports, write incident reports, case recordings, and letters to agencies/caregivers.
- Assist in the planning and administrative duties, including drafting proposal and statistical submission.
- Ensure proper upkeeping of clients’ records and database.
- Compile and report statistics to various stakeholders e.g. Board members, management, funders.
- Submit KPI statistics under funding requirement e.g. NCSS half-yearly report, MOH quarterly and annual report.
D. Any Other Duties
- Assist in SAMH events as assigned by Head.
- Deliver internal and external talks/workshops to promote mental wellness and raise awareness.
- Attend networking sessions and be involved in national-level projects contributing to mental health landscape on need to basis.
- Collaborate with and support other SAMH programmes when required.
- Conduct new hire orientation and attend to visitors to SAMH programmes.
- Any other duties as assigned by Head.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or Sociology.
- Passion in working with adults in recovery of mental health issues and their family members.
- Have good verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and good problem-solving skills.
- Initiative and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Able to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and other internet applications such as Zoom and social media.
- Applicants who have prior work experience in the Social Services sector and Mental Health field will have an added advantage.
