About the client
My client is a fast‑growing regional data center platform developing and operating large‑scale, next‑generation campuses across Southeast Asia. With active projects in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and other strategic markets, the organisation supports hyperscale and AI infrastructure demand while partnering closely with governments on national digital economy, energy, and land‑use priorities.
As data center development is deeply linked to regulatory frameworks, energy policy, investment incentives, and digital sovereignty, this role is critical in shaping the company’s operating environment and enabling long‑term growth.
About the role
This is the company’s first dedicated policy hire in Southeast Asia and will be a high‑impact role that directly influences site acquisition, permitting, power access, incentives, and long‑term operational success.
- Build and maintain senior‑level relationships with government officials, regulators, and ministries.
- Serve as the primary government‑facing representative across digital economy, investment, energy, trade, and land authorities.
- Position the company as a strategic partner aligned with national digital and AI agendas.
- Represent the organisation in ministerial briefings, bilateral meetings, and industry‑government dialogues.
- Monitor regulatory developments across energy, land use, foreign investment, environmental policy, data governance, and tax incentives.
- Develop country‑specific regulatory strategies that anticipate policy shifts and support the development pipeline.
- Provide clear, actionable policy intelligence to senior leadership.
- Represent the company in industry associations and policy coalitions.
- Lead or contribute to policy submissions on energy pricing, sustainability, digital sovereignty, and infrastructure frameworks.
- Partner with legal, development, power, commercial, and country teams to embed policy considerations into business decisions.
- Deliver structured reporting on regulatory risks, government engagement, and policy developments.
Skills and experience required
- 12+ years in public policy, government affairs, regulatory strategy, or government relations.
- Strong experience in infrastructure, energy, technology, or real estate sectors.
- Proven track record securing approvals, incentives, or favourable regulatory outcomes for large‑scale infrastructure projects.
- Experience navigating permitting and regulatory processes for data centers, power, industrial, or critical infrastructure.
