We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our Advanced E-beam and Arc Joining Team at ARTC’s Remanufacturing Process Technology Group. The successful candidate will drive and support the development of advanced processes, with a focus on Electron Beam Welding, Laser Welding, and Additive Manufacturing for industrial applications in sectors such as aerospace, energy, maritime, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize electron beam welding, laser welding, and additive manufacturing processes.
- Lead and contribute to industry-driven R&D projects.
- Investigate process impact on weld quality, defects, microstructure, and mechanical performance.
- Develop welding procedures, process qualification methodologies, and best practices.
- Support process monitoring, automation, and digital manufacturing initiatives.
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to capability development.
Requirements
- PhD in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant industrial and/or research experience in electron beam welding, laser welding, and/or laser-arc hybrid welding.
- Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, materials characterization, and process development.
- Hands-on experimental mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
- Any other ad-hoc work for the team, Group, Organisation and A*STAR with possible secondary roles.
Preferred
- Experience with aerospace, energy, maritime, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing applications.
- Experience with process monitoring, robotics, automation, data analytics, or digital manufacturing technologies.
- Track record of industrial project delivery and technology deployment.
