Job Overview
Hanlin International Education is looking for an experienced and passionate Primary and Secondary School English Teacher to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English instruction to secondary school students, supporting their academic development, examination preparation, and overall confidence in using English.
The teacher should be familiar with the Singapore primary and secondary school English curriculum and/or international English curricula, and be able to adapt lessons according to individual students' learning needs and academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Lesson Delivery
- Plan and deliver engaging and structured English lessons for Primary and Secondary 1–Secondary 4 students.
- Teach students in individual, small-group, and/or class settings.
- Develop students' skills in:Reading comprehensionWriting and compositionGrammarVocabularyOral communicationCritical thinkingSummary and comprehension skills
- Prepare students for school examinations and relevant English proficiency examinations.
- Adapt teaching strategies according to students' abilities, learning styles, and academic needs.
2. Lesson Planning & Materials Development
- Prepare lesson plans, worksheets, assignments, quizzes, tests, and revision materials.
- Develop supplementary teaching resources to strengthen students' understanding of key concepts.
- Align teaching content with the relevant Singapore MOE or international curriculum.
- Review and improve teaching materials based on students' performance and feedback.
3. Student Assessment & Academic Progress
- Conduct regular assessments, quizzes, mock examinations, and diagnostic tests.
- Mark students' work and provide clear, constructive and timely feedback.
- Identify students' strengths, weaknesses, and learning gaps.
- Develop targeted intervention and improvement plans for students who require additional support.
- Maintain accurate records of students' attendance, performance, progress, and learning outcomes.
- Track students' academic progress and recommend appropriate next steps.
4. Examination Preparation
- Prepare students for secondary school examinations and major academic assessments.
- Familiarise students with examination formats, question types, marking requirements, and examination techniques.
- Conduct timed practices, mock examinations, and intensive revision programmes.
- Analyse examination results and identify areas requiring further improvement.
- Provide students with effective strategies for answering comprehension, writing, grammar, and vocabulary questions.
5. Classroom Management
- Establish a positive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
- Maintain effective classroom discipline and student participation.
- Motivate students to become independent and confident learners.
- Manage different learning abilities within the same class.
- Encourage students to develop good study habits and a positive attitude towards learning.
6. Parent Communication
- Provide regular updates on students' academic progress and learning needs.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding attendance, homework, performance, and areas for improvement.
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings when required.
- Work closely with the academic and administrative teams to ensure a positive learning experience for students and parents.
7. Academic Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other teachers and the academic team to improve curriculum delivery.
- Participate in curriculum planning, teaching discussions, and academic meetings.
- Share effective teaching strategies, resources, and student progress with colleagues.
- Participate in internal teacher training and professional development programmes.
- Contribute ideas for improving teaching quality and student outcomes.
8. Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in school/centre events, workshops, enrichment programmes, and academic activities when required.
- Support trial lessons and student placement assessments.
- Assist in the preparation of mock examinations and academic programmes.
- Perform other reasonable academic duties assigned by the Academic Director or Centre Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in English, English Literature, Education, or a related field .
- Minimum 2 years of relevant primary or secondary English teaching experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of the Singapore MOE Primary or Secondary English curriculum is highly preferred.
- Experience teaching Cambridge/IGCSE or other international curricula is an advantage.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Strong classroom management and lesson-planning skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students of different abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passionate about education and committed to students' academic development.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within an academic team.
