Software Engineer, Google Pay, Growth and Communications

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 year of experience with software programming in C++, Java, Python or Go.

Preferred qualifications

• 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience in mobile app, web, full-stack or backend development.
• Experience working effectively with Product Manager (PM)/UX to drive features end-to-end.
• Experience building systems that scale to millions of users globally.
• Experience working on DevAI for agentic coding and productivity.

Operating at an unprecedented scale, our Singapore-based team is the engine behind the overarching Growth and Communications (Comms) platforms. Our Comms infrastructure powers the high-throughput messaging systems required to reliably engage hundreds of millions of users. Simultaneously, under Growth, we fully own high-volume user acquisition channels including our core referral and reward engines that drive massive-scale traffic and generate multi-million dollar business streams.

In this role, you will design and deploy scalable features ranging from our core referral and reward engines to robust, high-throughput communication infrastructure that shape the financial journey for hundreds of millions of users, while leveraging agentic workflows and generative AI tools to accelerate delivery.

Whether it is paying online with Autofill, using tap and pay in stores, or using the Google Pay app, the Payments team at Google is focused on making payments simple, seamless, and secure. In addition to consumer payment technologies, the Payments team also powers the money movement between Google and its consumers and businesses.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy features across Google Pay’s mobile, web, and backend ecosystems, focusing on seamless Remote Procedure Call (RPC) integration and UI excellence.
• Lead technical designs for robust backend services and data processing pipelines that support massive-scale growth experiments.
• Ensure long-term feature reliability by building comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and automated performance tracking.
• Contribute to engineering excellence by participating in design reviews, improving code quality, and contributing to technical discussions within the team.
• Leverage DevAI and agentic coding workflows to accelerate end-to-end development, setting a high standard for AI-assisted engineering productivity within the team.
