BIM Modeler- Drafter (Electrical)

Job Description

The Electrical BIM Modeler is responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining electrical engineering designs and models to ensure electrical drawings and specifications align with project requirements. This role involves utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools to produce accurate 3D models, manage design data, and support the project team in visualizing and coordinating electrical building services across multiple construction projects. The Electrical BIM Modeler ensures models comply with project specifications, timelines, and quality standards while collaborating closely with engineers, consultants, and project managers to achieve successful project delivery.

Job Responsibilities

BIM Model Creation and Updates:

• Develop and revise electrical BIM models, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Regularly update models based on design changes, site conditions, and project feedback.

Preparation of Drawings and Documents:

• Use BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit) to prepare electrical services drawings, coordination drawings, construction drawings, and as-built drawings.
• Produce detailed design documentation to support various project phases.

Coordination with Project Team:

• Coordinate electrical services with architectural, structural, ACMV, plumbing, and other building services disciplines.
• Work closely with engineers, project managers, and site personnel to ensure smooth project execution.
• Assist Project Engineers and Managers throughout different stages of the project lifecycle.

BIM Coordination and Clash Detection:

• Participate in BIM coordination meetings and assist in resolving design conflicts and clashes.
• Ensure electrical systems are properly integrated within the overall building model.

Drawing and Drafting:

• Create and modify detailed electrical services models and drawings, including lighting layouts, power distribution systems, cable containment systems, earthing systems, fire alarm systems, and ELV systems.
• Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and design information to produce accurate BIM models and drawings.

Document Control and Delivery:

• Prepare drawing submissions and ensure documentation complies with project and authority requirements.
• Maintain proper document control and revision records.

Material Quantification:

• Extract quantities from BIM models and prepare material take-offs for electrical installations.
• Support procurement and project planning activities with accurate quantity information.

Site Support and Drawing Revisions:

• Provide technical support to project teams by explaining drawings and resolving BIM-related issues.
• Incorporate site feedback and update models and drawings as required.

Continuous Improvement:

• Stay updated on the latest BIM technologies, software developments, and industry best practices to enhance project efficiency and model quality.

Job Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in Electrical BIM Modeling or Electrical Engineering drafting.
• Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Proficiency in BIM software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
• Good understanding of building electrical systems, including power, lighting, fire alarm, security, communication, and ELV systems.
• Knowledge of construction processes and BIM coordination practices.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve clashes within BIM models.
• Familiarity with BIM standards, submission requirements, and industry best practices.
• Able to work independently and productively with minimal supervision.
